How Ortho-K Works

1

Night Time

Insert your custom-fitted ortho-k lenses before sleep. They gently reshape your cornea overnight.

2

Morning

Remove the lenses when you wake up. Your cornea retains the corrected shape for clear vision.

3

All Day

Enjoy clear vision without glasses or contacts. Perfect for school, sports, and social activities.

4

Repeat

Wear lenses each night to maintain clear vision. Effects are reversible if you stop wearing them.

The Science: Orthokeratology uses specially designed rigid gas-permeable lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea. This changes how light enters the eye, correcting refractive errors. Clinical studies show ortho-k can slow myopia progression by 40-60% in children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ortho-k safe for children?

Yes. Ortho-k has been used safely in children for over 20 years. The lenses are FDA and TGA approved for myopia control. Our optometrists are specially trained in paediatric ortho-k.

What age can my child start?

Children as young as 8 can use ortho-k. The best age depends on your child's maturity and ability to handle lenses. We assess suitability during the initial consultation.

How long until results are visible?

Most patients see improvement within 1-2 weeks of starting treatment. Full correction typically takes 2-4 weeks.

What happens if my child stops wearing the lenses?

Vision will gradually return to its original state over 1-2 weeks. There are no permanent changes to the eye. This reversibility is one of ortho-k's key advantages.

How often do lenses need replacing?

We recommend replacement every 6-12 months depending on wear and condition. Our subscription plans include regular replacements.

Can my teen still play sports?

Absolutely! Ortho-k is ideal for active kids. No glasses to break or contacts to dry out during sports. Swimming is also fine during the day.

Is it painful to wear the lenses?

Most children adapt quickly. There may be mild discomfort during the first few nights, but this typically resolves within a week. Our optometrists ensure proper fitting for maximum comfort.

How do I clean and care for the lenses?

We provide comprehensive training on lens care. You'll need a daily cleaning solution and a storage case. Our subscription includes solution kits for Complete Care plan members.

What if a lens gets damaged or lost?

Contact us immediately. Our Complete Care plan includes priority replacement. For Starter plan members, replacement lenses are available at a reduced cost.

Are there any side effects?

When properly fitted and cared for, ortho-k is very safe. Rare side effects can include temporary dryness or mild discomfort. Regular check-ups help prevent complications.
